Body Temperature and Biofeedback

Skin temperature in biofeedback was evaluated by scientists in labs and it was found that controlling body temperature is a way to relieve pain and anxiety. Circulatory conditions can be controlled as well by using biofeedback techniques.

Experts attach sensors to the patient’s smaller or middle prime finger or the feet. The sensors monitor activities within muscles groups once the device is attached. If muscles start to tense or become stressed the temperature of skin drops when the blood redirects back into the muscles, as well as the internal organisms.

Biofeedback connects to EMG machines and other types of machines to monitor tension in muscles and measure the skin’s temperature. The concept is to help patient’s use involuntary processes and temperature to manage pain or stress. Biofeedback is geared to help patients relax and control pain and anxiety. Stress can cause migraine headaches, which biofeedback techniques are used to control the pain and stress. Read the rest of this entry »

The Three Best Buy Elliptical Trainers

Elliptical trainers are very new and are a great alternative to treadmills. You have heard about the many elliptical trainers that are available on the market, however, which ones should you get. Elliptical trainers should not be judged just on price, but also on rating the machine itself. We will go over the best three elliptical trainers that fit the best price and value for the money that you pay.

Elliptical trainers that are under one-thousand dollars usually are questionable as far as quality. However, the Nordic Track CX 990, falls in the rare elliptical trainers that has one of the bets prices on the market, along with good quality. This machine has a incline feature that can change the incline form ten all the way up to 30%. This is a great feature to add intensity to your workout, along with the ten levels of resistance that you can change. Now most Elliptical trainers only have a ninety day warranty, however, the CX 990 has a one year warranty which makes this machine a safe and smart buy for people who plan on using the machine regularly and want to maintain a nice low budget not wanting to spend less then one-thousand dollars on elliptical machines. Machines and Applying in Biofeedback

Electroencephalogram is called EEG

EEG is an Electroencephalogram used to detect the brain wave activity. Brain waves are Beta that helps to keep us awake, Alpha for relaxation and Theta to let us have a light sleep, and deep sleeping is called Delta.

For relaxation, the alpha wave needs to be monitored by increasing the wave so it can help relieve anxiety, epilepsy and insomnia. If alpha therapy training is being taught for insomniacs, they will also need to train to control the theta as well.

When treating Epileptics the patient(s) will be trained for the alpha. Monitoring the brain waves during a seizure will also have to be done. Read the rest of this entry »

Studying the Internal Stars: The Use of Energy in Your Body

If you have ever heard of ideas from physical fitness or Yoga, then you are familiar with the idea of using the energy in your body properly.  In Chinese Medicine, the energy that you have is something that is much deeper than a physical fitness.  The idea if Qi (Chee), is an energy force that is often referred to in order to stay healthy.

The idea of Qi begins with elements that are in the use universe that make up energy.  This same Qi that is in the universe is, by Chinese medicine philosophy, also in ever living being.  The Qi that is being referred to is something that Chinese philosophy considers to be in every part of every thing.  It can’t be destroyed, only changed.

One way to explain the way that Qi functions in Chinese philosophy is through the element of water.  Under certain conditions, water will change into ice or evaporate.  Even though it is changing form or place, it still functions as the same type of energy in the other form.  Read the rest of this entry »

Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis?

Many of us will eventually get a diagnosis (or know someone who gets a diagnosis) of cardiovascular disease, or our physician will tell us we have some of the symptoms (high blood pressure, bad circulation in extremities, loss of feeling in the extremities, among others). Poor diet, lack of exercise, family history, and other factors can all contribute to poor heart health – raise your hand if you don’t know someone who has heard this from his doctor!

They also say that diet and exercise alone aren’t enough to alleviate your health problems – hence the barrage of pharmaceuticals that are available to patients, both prescription and over-the-counter. Do your research when you decide which therapies to use. What works for Uncle Ted may not work for you, and you don’t want to be hit by any unexpected side effects either.

One particularly interesting option out there is EDTA chelation therapy, which may be able to pull heavy metals (mercury and lead, among others) from the body. Some heavy metals have been thought to contribute to hardening of the arteries.

Always ask your doctor before starting a course of therapy, of course. And get off of the couch and exercise, as well (not being preachy here but exercise has certainly helped me!). Live a long, healthy life!

Nutritional Supplements

For many years, people have been talking about and taking nutritional supplements.  What started out as natural herbs, has now grown into a trend that people use on a daily basis.  These days, you can find supplements more sophisticated than ever, available in many different forms such as liquid, capsules, pills, and teas.  There are some that are still home grown, although they aren’t as popular as those that are commercially supplied.

In general, nutritional supplements are taken to help with diets that are missing vital nutrients and minerals.  They come in many different forms as stated above, and provide one or more of vital sources such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, and amino acids.  Although they aren’t intended to replace meals, nutritional supplements can be taken to enhance your diet.

Discount Vitamins

Instead of paying full price for the vitamins and supplements you need, you can always save a bit of money and go with discount vitamins.  There are several ways to find vitamins on discount, with the most common way being sales at your local nutrition store.  Even though this is the most common way to find discount vitamins, it can also be one of the hardest ways to find the vitamins you need.

When local nutrition stores have discount sales, they normally have a limited supply of the vitamins that have on sale.  Once they have been sold, that is normally the end of that particular vitamin being offered at discount price for the duration of the sale.  Other times, the time frame of the sale may make it hard to get to the store.  If you don’t know about the sale in advance, it may conflict with your schedule and you miss out on it.

Reduce The Size of Your Tummy

Now that spring seems to finally be back in our lives, many people are concerned about wearing down that belly they have built up, making way for a sculpted midriff to shine through. Those folks who let themselves go a little in the winter months may be working overtime now that it is April and thoughts of bikinis are dancing in their heads. The good news is that there are, of course, stomach exercises to speed along the process. Some are better than others, including these few, which are good specifically for reducing the size of that tummy. These particular exercises are targeted at beginners, so give them a try if you are just starting out. Once you have mastered these, feel free to advance to something more challenging. When doing these exercises, it is important to move slowly so as to maintain control and not allow momentum to take over. As with any workout routine, be sure to consult a professional before beginning and always warm up properly to avoid injury.

Vertical Leg Crunch
This is a variation on the traditional crunch that focuses more specifically on reducing stomach fat. To begin this stomach exercise, first lie on your back on a flat surface, such as the floor. Use a mat or towel to cushion your spine. Put your hands behind your head, with elbows out far enough that they are out of sight. Now lift your legs straight up into the air, crossing your ankles and bending your knees slightly. Contract your abdominals and lift your shoulders, head and upper back up to about a thirty degree angle. Be aware of not lifting with your hands or leading with your head.
