My Mother and I took my little son up the hospital on the weekend to visit an elderly friend who had taken a fall.  Luckily, a neighbor who also happens to be a nurse heard her calling out and managed to get her to emergency despite a nasty bump on the head and some possibly fractured ribs.   Falls like this can really be scary, and my Mother’s friend was very lucky.   Thankfully, there are 2 new products out that I’m suggesting my parents and all their friends look into - one is a medical alarm.. so that if they fall, the fall detector kicks in and alerts emergency personnel of their plight, the other a GPS system.
The tele-assist fall alarm product offers the following features:
- Fall Alert
- Inactivity Alert
- Intruder Alarm
- Live Personal Reminders
- Panic Button
- 24/7 Live Monitoring
All for $34.95 a month.. which is great value for the peace of mind it offers! The other product that I saw incorporates a GPS system. Luckily none of my parents or their friends are suffering from Alzheimers, but as they age this can’t be ruled out as a possibility. I’m always seeing cases on the Missing persons programs on TV about old folks that get disoriented and wander off. With this GPS system ,they are easy to locate and can’t get themselves lost or hurt.
