Stomach Exercises For A Flatter Tummy

The weather is warming up, and for many people, that means it is time to work on that little bulge that has been taking up residence around the midsection since Thanksgiving. These several exercises can help you shed that excess turkey weight and flatten out that stomach in time for beach season. As with any workout routine, be sure to consult a professional before beginning and always warm up properly to avoid injury.

Plank
For this stomach exercise, you will need to lie on a flat surface, such as the floor. You will be lying in your stomach, so you may want to use a mat or towel to cushion your knees. Prop your upper body up on your forearms so that your elbows make a ninety degree angle and are positioned directly below your shoulders. Now lift your body up off the floor so that your lower body is supported by your toes, while your upper body remains supported by your elbows. Your body should basically be a straight line, with no arch or drooping through your back. Hold this position for twenty seconds, then lower your body back to the floor. One repetition is sufficient. Body Temperature and Biofeedback

Skin temperature in biofeedback was evaluated by scientists in labs and it was found that controlling body temperature is a way to relieve pain and anxiety. Circulatory conditions can be controlled as well by using biofeedback techniques.

Experts attach sensors to the patient’s smaller or middle prime finger or the feet. The sensors monitor activities within muscles groups once the device is attached. If muscles start to tense or become stressed the temperature of skin drops when the blood redirects back into the muscles, as well as the internal organisms.

Biofeedback connects to EMG machines and other types of machines to monitor tension in muscles and measure the skin’s temperature. The concept is to help patient’s use involuntary processes and temperature to manage pain or stress. Biofeedback is geared to help patients relax and control pain and anxiety. Stress can cause migraine headaches, which biofeedback techniques are used to control the pain and stress. Read the rest of this entry »

Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis?

Many of us will eventually get a diagnosis (or know someone who gets a diagnosis) of cardiovascular disease, or our physician will tell us we have some of the symptoms (high blood pressure, bad circulation in extremities, loss of feeling in the extremities, among others). Poor diet, lack of exercise, family history, and other factors can all contribute to poor heart health – raise your hand if you don’t know someone who has heard this from his doctor!

They also say that diet and exercise alone aren’t enough to alleviate your health problems – hence the barrage of pharmaceuticals that are available to patients, both prescription and over-the-counter. Do your research when you decide which therapies to use. What works for Uncle Ted may not work for you, and you don’t want to be hit by any unexpected side effects either.

One particularly interesting option out there is EDTA chelation therapy, which may be able to pull heavy metals (mercury and lead, among others) from the body. Some heavy metals have been thought to contribute to hardening of the arteries.

Always ask your doctor before starting a course of therapy, of course. And get off of the couch and exercise, as well (not being preachy here but exercise has certainly helped me!). Live a long, healthy life!

Nutritional Supplements

For many years, people have been talking about and taking nutritional supplements.  What started out as natural herbs, has now grown into a trend that people use on a daily basis.  These days, you can find supplements more sophisticated than ever, available in many different forms such as liquid, capsules, pills, and teas.  There are some that are still home grown, although they aren’t as popular as those that are commercially supplied.

In general, nutritional supplements are taken to help with diets that are missing vital nutrients and minerals.  They come in many different forms as stated above, and provide one or more of vital sources such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, and amino acids.  Although they aren’t intended to replace meals, nutritional supplements can be taken to enhance your diet.

Discount Vitamins

Instead of paying full price for the vitamins and supplements you need, you can always save a bit of money and go with discount vitamins.  There are several ways to find vitamins on discount, with the most common way being sales at your local nutrition store.  Even though this is the most common way to find discount vitamins, it can also be one of the hardest ways to find the vitamins you need.

When local nutrition stores have discount sales, they normally have a limited supply of the vitamins that have on sale.  Once they have been sold, that is normally the end of that particular vitamin being offered at discount price for the duration of the sale.  Other times, the time frame of the sale may make it hard to get to the store.  If you don’t know about the sale in advance, it may conflict with your schedule and you miss out on it.

The Strong Stomach Workout

When beginning an abdominal workout routine, for most people the goal is simple: a flatter stomach. While a smooth, flat stomach looks good, it is less of an accomplishment if the the stomach muscles have not gained any strength. In addition to slimming down around the outer abdominals, it is also important to build strength in the core abdominals. Below are some stomach exercises that work out the core to build strong muscles throughout the abdomen. As with any workout routine, be sure to consult a professional before beginning and always warm up properly to avoid injury.

Tone Your Torso
Begin this stomach exercise on all fours, knees and hands on the floor. Keep your stomach pulled in and extend your left arm out in front of you (football fans, imagine a referee signaling first down). Keep this arm outstretched as you extend your right leg out behind you. Switch arms and legs, and repeat for an entire set. Take particular care not to let your pelvis sway out of position.

Ginger Root Heals Ailments

The vitamin ginger root offers you a lot of benefits, including the ability to treat headaches and common colds.  One of the most common uses of ginger root is the treat an upset stomach, something we all know and hate.  Normally in the form of flat ginger ale and crackers, this vitamin could fix even the most upset of stomachs - and fast to boot.

For the last few decades, ancient civilizations have used the vitamin in both cooking form and medicine form.  Although the technology back then wasn’t close to what it is today, the ancient civilizations knew that ginger root would help prevent ailments ranging from motion sickness to athlete’s foot.  With ginger root having anti-inflammatory properties, it can also make the pain of rheumatoid arthritis less intense.  Women that drink ginger tea have said that it helps them eliminate menstrual cramps completely.

What many people don’t know, is the fact that ginger root isn’t really classified as a root, but instead an underground stem.  Even though it is a very useful vitamin and supplement, it is harvested year round just like the hawthorne berry.  The harvests, which are obtained roughly five months or so after being planted, are used in the creation of products such as candied ginger and ginger syrup.  Harvests that are obtained later can be sold as fresh ginger.  The longer the ginger remains in the ground before being harvested, the spicier and hotter it gets.

Vitamin Supplements

Although getting the proper amount of vitamins and nutrients from natural food is important, it can be very hard to do.  Those who can’t get the minerals and such they need from food, turn to vitamins and supplements.  With vitamin supplements being a big business, there are many manufacturers to choose from.  Each year, there are thousands of supplements out there, with customers spending billions and billions of dollars to get the supplements and vitamins they need.

Right now, there are 3 different delivery systems for supplements – liquid, capsules, and tablets.  Although each one is good in its own right, you should always pick one that dissolves easy and doesn’t just pass through your system.  If your vitamin passes through your body, it will end up toilet and you’ll end up wasting your money.
